The Peter Gabriel/Hot Chip cover of Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa is the weirdest thing to happen to music since Solsbury Hill.  No, since Gregorian chant was hit with the Hypomixolydian mode.  No, scratch that, since two Neanderthals accidentally banged their clubs together inside a reverberant cave.

“And it feels so unnatural to sing your own name.”

This is kind of magical. Maybe better than the original?

EDIT: A Peter Gabriel cover is always better than the original.

Ok, this is pretty cool and all. And I like the ad libbing with the line called out above, but is it just me or does this seem suspicious? I have this image of Peter Gabriel calling up all these artists asking if people want to do a song with him. Finally somebody agreed and they are like, “what do you want to play?” And Gabriel tries to be all non-chalant and says, “Umm, oh jeeze, uh… I’ll just name the first random song that pops into my head. Umm… Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.” “Umm, Peter, sounds great and all, but you know that song has your name in it.” “It does? What? I mean, it’s a great song, I love it, that’s why I said it, but—really? My name? I’ve never noticed.”
